CEA 2021: Annual Meeting of the Canadian Economics Association

The 55th Annual Conference of the Canadian Economics Association was held on-line June, 3rd-5th, 2021. The conference was hosted by the Economics Department at Simon Fraser University. Professor Francisco Ruge-Murcia of McGill University was the program chair, while Professor Steeve Mongrain from Simon Fraser University provided support for the on-line format.

CLEF: OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS

The Canadian Labour Economics Forum announces the first ever CLEF Award for excellence in research. This year it will be offered for the best paper written by a Canadian student or recent graduate. Update December 14th, 2020:

Given the public health situation in Canada and abroad, the CEA Board of Directors has decided to hold the 2021 Conference as a virtual meeting only and without an in-person component.

 

IMPORTANT DATES & DEADLINES

December 1, 2020

The conference organizer starts accepting submissions of papers for presentation at the conference through the web interface.

January 31, 2021

Last day for prospective special session organizers to contact the program office for booking blocks of sessions.

February 12, 2021

Deadline to submit your paper or abstract.

March 1, 2021

Advance registration for the conference commences.

March 31, 2021

Last day for notifying paper submitters on the acceptance or rejection of their paper for presentation.

April 22, 2021

EXTENDED Deadline for paper presenters to register. Presenters must register by this date or lose their conference program slot.

May 5, 2021

Early registration ends, and late registration fees apply thereafter.

Harold Innis Lecture

Lance Lochner (Western), Professor and Director of the Centre for Human Capital and Productivity (CHCP), and Canada Research Chair in Human Capital and Inequality at Western University. His research on labor economics and the economics of education studies the determinants of human capital accumulation and intergenerational mobility.

Doug Purvis Memorial Lecture

Nina Pavcnik (Dartmouth), Niehaus Family Professor in International Studies at Dartmouth College. Her research interests are at the intersection of international trade, development, and industrial organization, and focus on how households, workers, and firms respond to globalization.

CWEC Lecture

Emi Nakamura (UC Berkeley), Chancellor's Professor of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley. Her research focuses on monetary and fiscal policy, business cycles and macroeconomic measurement. 

State of the Art Lectures

Susan Athey (Stanford GSB), The Economics of Technology Professor at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Her current research focuses on the design of auction-based marketplaces and the economics of the internet, primarily on online advertising and the economics of the news media.

Chris Blattman (Chicago Harris), Ramalee E. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at the University of Chicago. His research examines the causes of conflict, crime, and poverty in developing countries.

Nick Bloom (Stanford), William Eberle Professor of Economics at Stanford University. His research focuses on management practices and the macroeconomic implications of uncertainty.

Olivier Deschenes (UC Santa Barbara), Professor of Economics at the University of California at Santa Barbara. His research in the area of environmental economics examines the effects of climate change.   

Silvia Goncalves (McGill), Professor of Economics at McGill University. Her research in econometrics is concerned with the use of bootstrapping in cross-section and time-series models.

Adriana Lleras-Muney (UCLA), Professor of Economics at the University of California at Los Angeles. Her research examines the relationships between socio-economic status and health, with a particular focus on education and income.

Fiona M. Scott Morton (Yale) Professor of Economics at Yale University School of Management. Her area of academic research is empirical industrial organization, with a focus on empirical studies of competition in areas such as pricing, entry, and product differentiation.
